It’s safe to say that most American consumers probably can’t recall the last time they ate a meal prepared entirely from wholesome, farm-to-table ingredients, without any canned or prepackaged products. That’s because most Americans today consume mostly processed foods—foods produced with pesticides, GMOs and synthetic chemicals, routinely laced with too much sugar, salt and unhealthy fats.
In fact, processed foods make up as much as 70 percent of people’s diets– meaning only 30 percent of what they consume consists of wholesome, natural, or organic foods! But here’s the truth about processed foods: Long-term consumption of these “food products” spell bad news for your health.Processed vs. ultra-processed: What’s the difference?
Wreaks havoc on your health and the health of the planet. So why is it happening?
One reason is our inability to let go or adequately update archaic systems and processes. What worked 100 years ago is no longer appropriate. People typically don’t like change.
Another reason are those who are reaping the benefits of the current systems and processes. They don’t want to give that up and typically lack the creativity, imagination, or desire to reinvent themselves and their companies. They are established. They want to keep it that way. Actually – they’d like to see major growth in their areas, right? Quarter to quarter the massively paid corporate executives check … earnings, not health reports.
And here’s the really sad thing about this situation in particular. The food chemists who create the processed crap – they have billions of dollars of research to help them make you addicted to that food. That’s part of their job.
