Schumer Urges Emergency DOT Rule On Crude Oil Trains

Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Wednesday urged the U.S. Department of Transportation to issue an emergency order requiring highly flammable crude oil to be made less volatile before being shipped through New York, a safety precaution in light of a recent train derailment in Oregon.
The senator pressed transportation officials to set a federal standard for volatility, saying current law allows dangerous crude oil to be shipped without being stabilized and raises the risk of violent explosions if accidents or derailments were to occur….To view the full article, register now.
