EU Vote Catapults Climate Agreement Toward Taking Effect – Law360

Law360, New York (October 4, 2016, 6:55 PM EDT) — The European Union voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to ratify the United Nations’ landmark climate change agreement to help slash global greenhouse gas emissions, putting the accord over the threshold of support it needs to take effect. European Parliament lawmakers voted 610 to 38, with 31 abstentions, to ratify the agreement that was brokered in Paris at the December 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as the 21st Conference of the Parties or COP21.
