DuPont To Pay $42M For Va. Mercury Pollution – Law360

Law360, New York (December 15, 2016, 5:45 PM EST) — DuPont has agreed to pay $42 million and assume cleanup costs for the release of mercury from a former Virginia plant that polluted more than 100 miles of the Shenandoah River watershed area, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Thursday.

Under the settlement filed in Virginia federal court among the DOJ, U.S. Department of the Interior, Commonwealth of Virginia and DuPont, the company will make a cash payment of $42 million to the federal government in addition to covering cleanup costs that could reach $10 million…
