How long does humanity have? A look at feedback loops and worse case scenarios for our species Dr. Guy McPherson is a professor emeritus of Natural Resources, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona. He has specialized in forest resources, energy decline and climate change and its economic consequences. In the past he has also taught at Texas A&M and University of California at Berkeley. Having become disillusioned with the American university environment and academia, and after attempts by university officials to silence his outspokenness about the human causes of climate change, Guy abandoned his tenured position as a full professor for ethical reasons of conscience. He is the author of several books, the latest co-written with Carolyn Baker entitled “Extinction Dialogs: How to Live with Death in Mind.” He is also the co-host of the radio program Nature Bats Last heard every Tuesday evening at 3 pm Eastern time on the Progressive Commentary Hour. His website is GuyMcpherson.com
The introduction / monologue that Gary Null gives in the beginning is SPOT ON! He really nails it. Even if you know Guy McPherson’s spiel, hearing Gary’s intro is worth listening to this show.
He also has another batch of data around midway (30 mins in). He also mentions other scientists who have talked about near term human extinction. He refers to
Tim Garrett (I think he calls him Garrier but that’s incorrect). We have posted about Garrett here previously, here’s one.
Natoya Sackavol – University of Alaska, could not find her. Any information please post comment.
Brendan Gleeson – University of Ireland: An interesting reference in this article, http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-12998760
And Guy mentioned:
Peter Wadhams – Cambridge University
Jason Box – Ohio State: Looks like he’s still at Ohio State…
Camile Parmesan – Univ of Texas: If this is her looks like she still works for UT Austin…
