600-year-old New Jersey oak tree to be cut down in April | NJ.com

Church officials have decided that the 600-year-old white oak tree, which is believed to be the oldest in the nation, has died and will be cut down during the week of April 24, said Jon Klippel, a member of the church’s Planning Council on Tuesday.

The landmark tree that has called the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church home for centuries is located beside church and has watched over parishioners and the adjacent graveyard for the past 300 years.

Efforts to save the icon tree failed over the summer after it began showing dramatically signs of aging in June. It has been a fabric of the town since its inception in the 1700s.

Good to see it being mourned.

Thanks!
