Why call out Politics?
Unfortunately politics has everything to do with with how the environment is treated. Some governments from local to federal have respect and deep appreciation for wild lands, protected lands, and preserves; others, and more today when the risks are so high, who are not and see only resources to be extracted for “jobs” where people barely get paid enough to make a living while the corporate owners become richer by the decade.
Global trade is working together to extract resources as quickly as possible and their business cases never include enough contingency funds for environmental accidents. Then again, how do you mitigate a disaster like the BP Oilpocalypse in the Gulf of Mexico. Take a trip to Pensacola and talk to locals, get the story of the peoples who’s lives have been impacted. They are not hard to find.
Obama did commercials while “in the water in the Gulf of Mexico”. He also supports TPP and all the other PPs that go with it (ie TIPP). These trade agreements would allow, for example, a company like Chevron to sue a country like Ecuador to allow it to drill if it’s signed an agreement like TPP. These agreements can be signed under the choke hold of an economic hit man. Read any of John ‘s books? New one just came out: The New Confessions of an Economic Hitman. This is a perfect example of the game of political connect the dots.
The worst are the politicians who are stalling or worse denying abrupt climate change. The consequence of their actions could be much more than they ever imagined.
